Supreme Court seeks explanation on police brutality

Recent incidents of police brutality in the states of Bihar and Punjab have resulted in the Supreme Court directing both states to explain the violent conduct of their police personnel. Specifically, the recent incidents of police beating contractual teachers in Bihar, and a young woman in TarnTaran, Punjab when she asked for their help against harassment by a truck driver, gave rise to the Supreme Court's suo moto cognisance of media reports, and their orders to the two states to respond to the allegations of police brutality.

Four Punjab policemen were caught on a cellphone camera by a bystander, as they slapped a young woman and hit her with a baton when she called them for help and complained that she was being sexually harassed by truck drivers in the area. The woman's father who was with her, was also beaten. The incident that occurred in Tarn Taran near Chandigarh was aired by TV news channels. The policemen were suspended after media pressure built up on the authorities.

Jaggar Singh of Badrukhan village, Sangrur, went missing and his wife Jaswant Kaur reported it to the police who received a tip off that the man had been killed. They recovered the body of the dead man from the Nadampur canal two days later and during investigations, they found that Singh's own younger son Buta Singh, and his wife and two others had killed Jaggar Singh and thrown his body into the canal to destroy evidence. Police found during investigations, that Jaggar had distributed his 12 acres of land to his sons, giving 8 acres to his elder son Tarsem Singh, and 4 acres to his younger son Buta Singh. Buta wanted more but his father refused. One day he called his father to his place and when he was going through the fields, Buta and his accomplices killed his father with sharp weapons and disposed of his body. Police have registered a case of murder and destruction of evidence.
Female MBA student arrested for pick-pocketing in Delhi metro

Monika Khantwal, 23, was arrested for pick-pocketing in crowded Metro stations. She was apprehended following investigations into complaints about pick-pocketing by women travelers at the stations. Ms Khantwal is a graduate from Delhi University and is an MBA student in Noida. She is also doing a diploma computer course at an institute. Police say she wanted to live a lavish life and to buy gadgets such as expensive cell phones. In February she stole the purse of a passenger and later withdrew Rs.50,000 from an ATM. Again in March she stole another bag and withdrew Rs.20,000. CCTC footage was checked on the basis of which a trap was laid and Monika was arrested. The stolen money has been recovered from her, part in cash and part from her bank account.

According to a new global survey India made it to the list of top three countries following safe sex with 71 percent saying they used condoms. About time spend on foreplay and sexual arousal Indian couples are likely to make love on average for just 15.1 minutes, the lowest amount of time allocated for the sex in the world! China led the condom usage figures at 77 percent and Hong Kong at 73 percent. Colombians have the most frequent sex followed by Indonesians and Russians.
