US NRI appointed vice chairman of Illinois Council

Raja Krishnamurthy, 39, a former deputy treasurer of IIlinois and ex-special assistant attorney general of Illinois has been appointed vice chairman of the Illinois Innovation Council by Illinois governor Pat Quinn. The Council was founded in 2011 to identify, promote and attract innovation-driven enterprises and individuals to the state and it will develop policies to cultivate and retain entrepreneurs, researchers and other enterprises. Krishnamurthy is currently president of Sivanathan Laboratories, a high-tech business incubator focused on the development of alternative energy and military technology for commercial civilian use.
US NRI Sunder Pichai to head Google Android

Google announced that henceforth Sundar Pichai will lead Android, in addition to his existing work with Chrome and Apps. Pichai, 40, is Tamil Nadu born and an IIT-Kharagpur alumnus. He is known for his talent for creating products that are technically sound yet easy to use, and he loves a big bet such as Chrome that in 2008 people doubted whether the world really needed another browser. Today Chrome has hundreds of millions of content users and is growing fast thanks to its speed and security. Pichai joined Google in 2004 and among his other achievements he oversaw the development of different apps like Google Maps. After his stint at IIT he did a Masters in engineering and materials science at Stanford and got an MBA from the Wharton School of Business.

Dr Vistasp M Karbhari, provost and executive vice president for academic affairs at the University of Alabama in Huntsville has been appointed president of the University of Texas at Arlington. He had earlier served as professor and vice chairman of the structural engineering department at the University of California - San Diego. He completed his higher education from the University of Pune, and is a noted researcher and has published over 200 scientific papers. The 130 year old University of Texas System has 9 academic universities and enrollment of some 216,000 students. University of Texas at Arlington has an enrollment of some 33,800 students.
12-year-old NRI has higher IQ than Einstein

Neha Ramu, 12, daughter of an Indian origin doctor couple has scored 162 on her IQ test, beating out Einstein. A score of 162 on a Mensa IQ test is the highest score possible for her age, and puts her in the top one percent of the brightest people in the UK. Neha's parents from India moved to Britain when she was seven. She has always performed well at school and took the Mensa test two years after she took an entrance exam for her school and achieved a perfect score of 280/280. Neha plans to also choose a career in medicine and has set her sights on a place at Harvard. She is a keen swimmer and confessed that the test was quite hard but she is happy that she made it to a member of Mensa. Einstein never took an IQ test but experts believe he had an IQ of around 160 as do physicist Stephen Hawking and Microsoft man Bill Gates.
NRI entrepreneur receives Malaysian award for excellence in healthcare

Alungal Mohammed, chairman and managing director of the Saudi-based Al Abeer Medical Group has received the award for Excellence in Healthcare, an award jointly instituted by the International Islamic University of Malaysia (IIUM), the Malaysian Prime Minister's Department of National Unity and Integration, and the OIC Today magazine. The award was presented by Rosnah Binti Hj Abdul Rashid Shirlin, deputy health minister of Malaysia. The organisers noted that the success story of the Al Abeer Group was an example of hard work and perseverance of Mr Mohammed. The inter-faith Harmony Award jointly instituted by the IIUM, Malaysian Prime Minister's Office and Kerala-based Ma'din Academy was presented to Sheikh Yasser Mohammed Yamani, Managing Director of the Saudi based Iqra Foundation.
